A Family Christmas
By: Naomi Falk 7th
“Time to go, girls!”
“Wait! I haven’t picked out what sweater I like best!”
“Marigold, it’s time to go.” mom persisted.
“Fine! I’ll get the blue one. No, the red one! Ugh!”
“Kristy! Harmoni! Clara! Let’s GO!” mom yelled.
“Coming!” they yelled back. It echoed over the whole store.
“Marigold, are you coming?” mom asked, annoyed.
“Yes, yes. I’ll choose the red one. It’s more of a Christmas-looking sweater.”
“Alright, let’s check out!” mom ordered.
So we all marched in a line to the checkout counter. We were getting a lot of stares. We checked out all our items, and we headed for the door.
“Come on, let’s go before they kick us out!” mom hurried us. So we all ran out the door.
Once we got home, we all collapsed. Shopping in my family is chaos, and Christmas shopping, well, you haven’t seen the least of it yet!
“I’m going to take a nap,” my mom announced. Then she left us in our chaotic state.
“Help! My new stuffed animal is squashing me!” Two-year-old Clara cried. Clara’s new stuffed animal was about as big as her.
“My new doll clothes won’t fit on my dolls!” 5-year-old Harmoni complained, “I demand a refund!”
“You don’t even know what that means,” Marigold pointed out.
“Whatever!” Harmoni said.
“My new dress doesn’t look so good anymore!” yelled 7-year-old Kristy.
“Help! I’m stuck in my red sweater!” 10-year-old Marigold cried.
It was a Christmas tradition for the family to go to the store on Christmas Eve and pick out something with their own money. The kids loved it; their mom didn’t know why she still let them do it.
Once the chaos was settled, (they had to call in the expert, who was grumpy because they woke her up), they all changed into their pajamas.
A FEW DAYS LATER…
“WAKE UP! WAKE UP!” Clara screamed. Everyone woke up.
“What’s wrong?!” (Harmoni)
“Where’s the fire?” (Kristy)
“Clara what’s wrong?” asked Marigold.
“It’s Christmas! Duh!” Clara ran to the living room. Everyone got up with a start and ran after her. It was a rule to wait until mom was ready before they went to see the presents.
“Clara, WAIT!” the girls called. The stopped once they reached the living room. Clara was there with their mom.
“I sent Clara to wake you girls up. You slept in too long!” their mom exclaimed, nice and cheery. The girls just shrugged and started opening their presents.
Once they were done, they played for a little while. Then they started thinking about what they wanted for next year.
A typical Christmas, thought their mom, when will they ever learn that Christmas is more than presents?
She glanced over at her children. I’ll let them figure it out themselves, she decided.

Chapter 3: Captured and the Dream
When the girls got back home, they had a sleepover. Serafina and Aqua drifted off to sleep, while for some reason, Ally stayed up and paced.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
“Sera?” Aqua mumbled in her sleep.
“Aqua? Is that you?” Serafina mumbled back. Ally looked at both of them, confused.
“Where are we?” Aqua asked.
“AAAAAAAA!!!” both girls woke up screaming.
“Your necklaces!” Ally said as she pointed to them. Serafina and Aqua looked down. Their necklaces were glowing a brighter blue than their original color.
“You two…… were speaking to each other!” Ally gasped, “Dream Crystals!”
“Huh?” Serafina and Aqua asked. Just then, Aqua’s mom burst into the room
“Are you girls okay?” she asked, panicked.
They looked at each other and agreed.
“Ally told us a scary story, and then hid. Then, she jumped out and scared us. Sorry we woke you,” Aqua explained.
Aqua’s mom sighed. “It’s okay. Just try to sleep now, okay?”
“Okay.” they all said in unison.
When Aqua’s mom left the room, Ally started speaking slowly, then went faster.
“Dream crystals let the wearers go into another's dream, even if the person they are visiting doesn't have a crystal. We must have found them and now we have them! I thought it was a legend!” Ally said.
“Weird.” Aqua said looking at her necklace.
“Cool is the word I’m looking for actually,” Serafina exclaimed. Then a hand came over Serafina’s mouth.
“MMMMMMM!!!!!” Serafina screamed.
“Ser……...MMMMM!!!!” Aqua screeched.
“Sera! Aqu……...MMMMMM!!!!” Ally shouted. They were put into the back of a truck filled with sleeping gas. Aqua fought the sleepiness as hard as she could, but then soon fell asleep.
----------------------------------------------------------------------
“How old are they?” a dark voice asked.
“Eleven years old,” a girl with dark hair responded.
“Younger than I thought, but they will do,” the dark voice said. “You watch the two in the back, and have Yatsari watch the other. I have a feeling keeping that one on her own will give us an advantage.”

Chapter 2: “Let the Games Begin”
“How many more ‘finishing touches’ do you have to make. I mean, we might be late for dragon-riding class. Don’t get me wrong, your outfit looks wicked cool! The blue in your outfit really compliments with your purple hair, and the chains around your waist, are absolutely perfect! It matches your dragon perfectly!” Aqua admired.
Serafina giggled. “Thanks! Plus, your blue outfit compliments your beautiful red hair.”
“Thanks! How does little dragon Lapis look?” Aqua asked.
“So cute!” Serafina exclaimed as Lapis shrunk into the size of a tiny dog.
“That spell our teachers cast on the dragons that lets them shrink into any size is amazing!” Ally said. “Also, how does Gala and I look?”
“Amazing! Your red with silver is a really great combination! It really clashes with your golden hair,” Aqua admired. “Speaking of hair, Sera, why did you dye your hair purple? It was a beautiful brown before, what happened?” Aqua asked.
Serafina shrugged. “I wanted to try something different. What, don’t you like it?”
“I like it!” Ally said joyfully. “That blue streak in your hair. It’s super pretty.”
Serafina smoothed out her hair. “Thank you Ally. How about you, Aqua?” Serafina asked.
“It’s beautiful.” Aqua said. Just then, a booming voice came over the intercom.
“Ally, Aqua, and Serafina, please report to the Dragon Riding Arena.”
“That’s us,” Ally reported, “Ready?”
“Ready.” Aqua and Serafina said confidently.
“Oh! Wait,” Ally said, “I made these for us!” she dug around in her pocket, and held out three identical silver ear cuffs shaped like dragons.
“Cool! Aqua and Serafina exclaimed as they put them on.

Chapter 1: The Story and the Search
“Where are we going again?” asked Serafina, the oldest.
“To the Blackout Dragons territory. Well, the old Blackout territory.” answered Aqua, the second oldest.
“Yeah. Plus, my feet hurt. Are we there yet?” complained Ally, the youngest.
“We will be there soon,” replied Serafina as she fiddled with her blue crystal necklace. “Ever since the Blackouts abandoned their territory, they have not been spotted once around here for months. So, this is a good time to look for the crystals,” she added.
A few months earlier, the girls came across a cave with walls of black obsidian. As the girls went farther into the cave, the walls and roof went into a welcoming arch shape. Just up ahead, there was a brilliant blue light. Eager, Ally ran ahead, leaving Serafina and Aqua shouting at her to slow down.
When Ally drew closer, she saw that the light was coming from a beautiful blue crystal, shaped like a oval. It was just sitting there in plain sight.
When Serafina and Aqua came up to Ally, Ally took a step forward, and accidentally stepped on a hidden button, causing a large boulder to come crashing down on top of the beautiful crystal.
“Quick! Grab as many pieces as you can!” Aqua had shouted. Just then, the floor gave way to a cliff, and all that was below was a Blackout Dragon's nest.
When the girls ran out of the cave, they looked at what they had in their hands. Serafina had gotten a large chunk of the crystal, and so did Aqua. When Ally emerged, she had more than thirty pieces, some were so small that they looked white.
They all turned their gems into beautiful necklaces. Serafina’s necklace was simple, with a black cord to compliment the crystal dangling from it. Aqua’s necklace had a beautiful blue chunk on the end of a chain of pure gold. Ally’s necklace contained two intertwined hearts, with both hearts containing her tiny crystals.
“We’re here!” shouted Ally. Serafina looked around. Hmmmmmm……… she thought. Which nest has the crystals?
“Over here!” Aqua shouted as she pointed to a Blackout Dragon’s nest. Ally grabbed a handful, and put her fist in the air.
“Um…….. Guys?” Aqua said urgently. Serafina looked up and saw a Immortal Beast. She gazed into its sad little eyes, and forgot the story, that Immortal Beasts turned people into immortals.
“Sera!” Ally and Aqua shouted as they ran up to her and tugged on her arms.
“Just……. One more minute.” Serafina said slowly.
“Come on Sera, snap out of it,” Aqua started, then she remembered that Serafina loved fashion. “Remember that we are going to create some outfits for when we ride our dragons?” she tried.
That made Serafina snap out of it. Then she slowly turned around. “Run.” she whispered. Then, she got up and they ran as fast as they could, and right outside the secret door that led to the Blackout dragon territory.
“Phew! That was close. You were almost immortal!” Aqua exclaimed.
“But I’m not.” Serafina muttered under her breath, but Ally heard her.
“Come on you two! Jump onto our dragons and let’s go make some dragon riding outfits!” Ally said excitedly.
The Haunted Forest

The Haunted Forest
Prologue
Jazzamay was a sixteen year old girl, who loved adventure. She lived about six miles away from a haunted forest, or said to be haunted. Since she was seven, she wondered if the forest was actually haunted. She had never had a chance to find out, because her parents would never let her go. This weekend, her parents were going to see her mother’s sister Jesse. She would be home alone for an entire weekend. Jazzamay called her friend, Bailey, who was also curious about the forest. They agreed that they would go camping for two nights in the haunted forest.
Day and Night One
Jazzamay woke up at 6:30 as her mom kissed her goodbye before her and her husband headed off to the airport. As soon as Jazzamay heard the front door close, she jumped up and started packing right away. She called Bailey, “You ready to go?” asked Jazzamay.
“Yes! I can’t wait!” said Bailey
“I’m on my way!” said Jazzamay
As soon as they got there, both girls could tell something was spooky about the forest. “Well, let’s set up camp, so we can get hiking.” said Bailey. They set up their tents and built a fire pit. “Alright let’s go!”
They started hiking deeper into the woods, and Bailey felt a chill run across her face.”Brr! It just got really cold!” said Bailey
“No, it’s still pretty warm, how are you cold?” asked Jazzamay.
They kept hiking but nothing else had happened. As nightfall came, things started getting spooky..” Let’s head back to camp.” said Bailey.
“Why, are you scared?” asked Jazzamay
“No!” Bailey shouted. Then a crow started squaking. Jazzamay felt the chill across her face.
“Okay, let’s get back to camp, it’s almost midnight.” Jazzamay said.
“Now who's scared?” replied Bailey. All of a sudden Bailey got pushed to the ground and screamed.
“Bailey!” shouted Jazzamay. Bailey got up and Jazzamay saw the tears in her eyes, and they started running away. “Do you know which way camp is?” asked Jazzamay.
“No.” replied Bailey. They kept running. “ We’ll eventually find our way out.” said Bailey. They hurried till they were out of breathe. They stopped for a second to take a break.
“I think we ran far enough.” said Jazzamay.
“But how will we get back to camp?” said Bailey.
“We can make use. We’ve got water, blankets, and we can make a shelter out of leaves and twigs. I watched a show about it one time.” said Jazzamay. “It shouldn’t rain tonight, so we can survive off our blankets. We’ll build a shelter in the morning.”
Day and Night Two
Jazzamay woke up bright and early. She made a fire with the fire starter she had in her backpack, while Bailey was still sleeping. Jazzamay heard a noise. It was like water was flowing. Jazzamay rushed to see what it was. It sounded like a river. She kept running. Then the sound was gone. Jazzamay looked around and she could not figure out where she had been before. All her stuff was back there. Then Jazzamay heard a scream that sounded like Bailey. She ran towards the scream and noticed she was back at camp. Bailey was sitting there petrified.
Jazzamay noticed a strange smell, then she ran over to Bailey. “Are you alright?” asked Jazzamay. Bailey pointed very slowly, her hand shaking. Jazzamay looked. It was a field full of blood. Jazzamay’s mouth fell open.
Jazzamay ran to start packing everything they had, while Bailey just sat there still like a park statue. “Bailey, come on!” Jazzamay dragged Bailey to her feet and they started running.
They must have ran half-a-mile before they stopped. “Wait, my parents get back today!” said Jazzamay. “They know I’ve been wanting to come here almost all my life! They’ll probably look here when they notice I’m not home.”
~
Night came and both girls snuggled up in their blankets. Jazzamay heard some noises, then a chill. She decided to ignore it, then tried to fall asleep. She could tell Bailey was asleep. All that running must have worn her out as it did Jazzamay, but Jazzamay couldn’t sleep. She shut her eyes very hard trying to fall asleep, but couldn’t. Jazzamay started to cry, questions running through her head, “Will we ever get out of here? Will I ever see mom and dad again? Are they back from their trip?” all the questions continued to be asked in Jazzamay’s head.
Day Three
“Yes, she’s sixteen. She’s got blonde hair. Her name is Jazzamay. I went to see my sister in California, and I came back two days later and she’s not here!” said Mrs. Jenka, Jazzamay’s mom.
“Ma’am, I just need you to calm down. What is your address?” said the dispatcher.
“208 Malvue Dr. Salem, Massachusetts 01001.”
“Okay ma’am, the police and detectives are on their way. They’ll be there shortly”
“Thank you!”
“Ding Dong!” The police were at the door. When Mrs. Jenka opened the door, she saw a man with a black uniform with a gold badge on his chest. He was with another man who was tall. He had gray hair. He had a greenish jacket with a white shirt underneath.
They sat down on the couch and the detective asked, “Ma’am, what are some of your daughters favorite things to do, or places she wants to go or likes to go?”

Lemonade poem: 5th Grade

It was the best and the worst of years in school
5th-grade
So many papers flowing out of my binder like a river
Homework
The tear-stained faces as the line grows short
Graduation
Sitting in rows with hands clasped in front of us like good children
Assigned Seating
The silent tap and pop of fingers on keys
Typing
The yellow manilla folder
GRADES
The smell of freshly baked chicken patties
Lunch
“Attention Students and staff please pull out your maps.”
Inside Recess
The soft thud of fingers pushing down notes
Music
The pounding of tennis shoes on the floor
P.E.
The crisp white paper
Art
The dreary blue of HER office
The Principal's Office
The eerie squeak
The swing set
5th-grade
